What is it: Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet. Reflexology is generally relaxing and may help alleviate stress. The theory behind reflexology is that areas of the foot correspond to organs and systems of the body. Pressure applied to the foot is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body.
Reflexologists use foot charts to guide them as they apply pressure to specific areas. Several studies indicate that reflexology may reduce pain and psychological symptoms, such as stress and anxiety, and enhance relaxation and sleep
How it works: On my first visit, I will talk to my clients about their general health and lifestyle. I will massage my client’s feet a little to relax them before they start, but the technique itself is about applying firm pressure to specific points on the foot. The technique can feel a bit odd at first; it can also be a bit overwhelming. Tension can be released, and pain dissolved, very quickly. A treatment session will usually last for about an hour.
